Nailing it…

I saw a post on the dooty and honor blog a few weeks ago attributed to David Brooks:

“Very few people have the luxury of being freely obnoxious. Most people have to watch what they say for fear of offending their bosses and colleagues. Others resist saying anything that might make them unpopular.

But, in every society, there are a few rare souls who rise above subservience, insecurity and concern. Each morning they take their own abrasive urges out for parade. They are so impressed by their achievements, so often reminded of their own obvious rightness, that every stray thought and synaptic ripple comes bursting out of their mouth fortified by impregnable certitude. When they have achieved this status they have entered the realm of Upper Blowhardia.”

I’m pretty sure the poster intended to use this as a description of Chris Rodriguez, who seems to be a constant thorn in the side this particular blogger. But after reading it a few times, I think it “nails” the opinion of most of Longmont towards a prominent progressive activist in our fair city:

“Luxury of being freely obnoxious” – I’d say FRL has given her that luxury in abundance.

“Most people have to watch what they say for fear of offending their bosses and colleagues. Others resist saying anything that might make them unpopular.” – This individual certainly does not watch what she says, as is very apparent from her numerous City Council meeting PITBH appearances. And I’m not sure one individual could be much more unpopular to the general public.

“But, in every society, there are a few rare souls who rise above subservience, insecurity and concern.” – She certainly is not lacking in her own security.

“Each morning they take their own abrasive urges out for parade. ” – Again, just watch a typical City Council meeting. I don’t know of anyone who has had more members of the public respond to her at City Council meetings to refute her often abrasive charges.

“They are so impressed by their achievements, so often reminded of their own obvious rightness, that every stray thought and synaptic ripple comes bursting out of their mouth fortified by impregnable certitude.” – This is most evident from her FRL postings and comments. The arrogance that comes forth is downright comical at times.

“When they have achieved this status they have entered the realm of Upper Blowhardia.” – Again, I think the vast majority of Longmont would agree on this one.

The poster was indeed correct. Mr. Brooks certainly did nail it.
